DAY SERVICES
Explore opportunities to learn, work, & socialize each day
A day well spent
Avenues’ Day Services are offered through our Center for Independence, giving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities a place to learn new skills, explore interests, and connect with others. Each person chooses activities that match their abilities and goals. That could be cooking lessons, art, computer skills, music, or community engagement. Our staff works closely with individuals and families to help shape days that feel right. Our flexible Day Services are available to Avenues residents as well as individuals from the community.
Center for Independence: a vibrant hub for daily experiences
The Center for Independence (CFI) is Avenues’ hub for learning, creativity, recreation, and employment support. The CFI includes dedicated spaces for cooking, art, computers, music, fitness, and group activities – giving people a place to build skills, explore interests, and enjoy time with others or alone. The CFI offers a stable, welcoming setting where adults can learn, connect, and engage in meaningful daily experiences, supported by trained staff who understand their interests, communication styles, and pace.
Skill building
Individuals can take lessons that match their interests and abilities, including cooking, art, computer skills, music, and more. Each activity is taught in a supportive environment where individuals can practice, repeat, and build confidence over time.
Activities and outings
The people we serve have frequent opportunities to enjoy experiences that match their interests and abilities. We offer a variety of activities, including on-site picnics and parties, bingo, and movies, as well as creative workshops, cooking lessons, fitness classes, and more. Adventurous individuals can participate in community outings such as baseball games, theater, nature walks, and concerts.
Recreation and connection
Whether it’s music, games, group activities, or celebrations, individuals have many ways to enjoy time with others. These shared experiences create opportunities for connection and make each day feel engaging and varied. For individuals needing quiet time, our Center for Independence offers plenty of spaces to unwind alone.
Employment preparation
Individuals who are interested in employment can take part in employment-readiness activities in the Professional Readiness Employment Program (PREP) class which includes building job skills, preparing applications, practicing interview skills, and exploring roles that match their strengths. We partner with community businesses to create job opportunities and offer packaging and assembly work onsite in our Center for Independence.
Contract packaging
Avenues’ contract packaging services provide businesses with a team of reliable workers to complete packaging, assembly, labeling, sorting, and light fulfillment tasks. Work is performed in a structured, supervised environment, with guidance from Avenues staff.
