Our community employment services are designed to help individuals at Avenues build work skills, prepare for interviews, and secure meaningful roles. Our approach is client-centered, starting with each person’s interests and goals. Then our experienced team provides the training and support needed to succeed.

Community employment

Some clients choose to work in the community with support from Avenues’ Employment Services team. We take great care to match our clients with jobs that best fit their strengths. Our experienced staff identify potential opportunities, work directly with employers to ensure clients understand expectations and tasks, and help clients work successfully at their jobs.

Our community employment clients work for local employers across retail, manufacturing, food service, and more.

Job training and coaching opportunities

Paid work at the Center for Independence

For clients who want on-site work opportunities, Avenues offers paid contract packaging work at our CFI in Wheeling, IL. Contract packaging can include everything from manual product assembly to labeling and shipping, and it’s an excellent starting point for those who are new to work or prefer a supported, familiar setting.

Job training: practice makes possible

For those participating in Avenues Day Services, we offer hands-on training through our PREP (Professional Readiness Employment Program) services to build skills that help clients feel confident and prepared for work. Depending on each person’s goals, support may include interview practice, learning workplace expectations, communication skill building, and more.

Matt could not be happier, as he spends his days at the CFI and lives with roommate David at an Avenues residence.

Alex works several days a week as the receptionist at the Avenues to Independence Jane and Albert Wohlers Center.

Cassie is working hard on her public speaking skills in the Job Prep Program at Avenues’ Center for Independence. Her dream job is to one day work in an office; a goal she is confident she will achieve.
