Advocacy means speaking up for what you want and need, and Heide did just that when she decided it was time for a change. Unsatisfied with her previous living situation, she took control of her future and asked to be placed on Avenues’ waiting list.
Heide wanted a home where she could have her own bedroom and staff who would support her by taking her to the places she enjoys. Seeing her boyfriend John's happiness at Avenues, she knew we could offer her more opportunities.
With the support of her guardian and the Avenues team, Heide’s advocacy paid off. She was thrilled to move into the Okazaki House, where she now enjoys the independence she had always hoped for.
