To provide assistance in various tasks in a retail setting

Qualifications:

  • We are looking for individuals who preferably have experience in a retail setting and also have experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Passing all Illinois HealthCare worked background checks.
  • Someone who works well with others is a key quality as we conduct most tasks as a team.
  • We are looking for people who are organized and reliable.
  • Ability to operate a computer and computerized retail point-of-sale system is a plus.
  • Knowledge of effective customer service principles.
  • Can meet physical demands of working in a retail setting, including but not limited to walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing and or pulling up to 25 pounds.

Avenues to Independence has been providing individual support and services to adults with developmental disabilities for over 60 years and we are looking to grow our team of wonderful volunteers who assist us in making this all possible!

Example of Responsibilities:

  • Sorting donations to determine what will be sold, donated or discarded
  • Pricing and tagging of items to be sold
  • Maintaining physical appearance of the shop by dusting, arranging, decorating, and organizing merchandise
  • Repairing donated items when possible; assure items are in good working order
  • Assisting customers as needed, promoting a positive shopping experience
