On Monday, July 29, Avenues to Independence celebrated the 36th Anniversary of the Avenues/Gorman Golf Classic at the Park Ridge Country Club. Despite rainy weather, the event proved to be a tremendous success, raising more than $175,000 to support Avenues’ vital programs.
The dedication and generosity of the golfers and supporters ensured the day was a triumph, rain or shine. Several additions were made to this year’s event. The Peoria Scoring was used to determine this year’s winners, Joe Keenan, Jim Robinson, Joe Perona, and Neil Piacenti, who received the first Avenues Cup Award.
Several Avenues program participants at the holes helped make the day truly special. New on the 14th hole was a horseracing game that allowed golfers to bet on their ponies (card suits) to see who could win the race. Special recognition goes to The Wilson Dow Group and Tim and Keli Walbert, our Presenting Sponsors, whose support made this event possible.
We also extend our gratitude to Steve Wilson, Chair of the Avenues Golf Committee, for his tireless efforts and dedication.
We hope to see you at next year’s event, with hopes for sunnier skies and continued success.
