Avenues to Independence and First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge celebrated their 65 year partnership. It was in the basement of the church that what is now known as Avenues began in 1953. Children in the community with special needs would attend classes since the schools in the area would not allow them to attend. The church hosted Avenues program participants for a morning service followed by a cookout on Sunday August 18.
Program participants and their families played bingo for prizes donated by local business. For lunch they enjoyed burgers and hot dogs and ice cream for dessert. A balloon artist made special hats and bracelets for the guests, always a fun part of the event!
Thank you to Pastor David for welcoming all of the program participants and making this a fun day for everyone!
