The Jane and Albert Wohlers Visionary Award honors the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to be a productive, valued member of the community. Established in recognition of the late Jane and Albert Wohlers’ extraordinary philanthropy and lasting vision, the award celebrates individuals whose commitment and leadership strengthen inclusion and enrich our community for generations to come. First presented to Albert Wohlers in 2012, the award has since been given annually at the Avenues’ annual gala.

Jane and Albert Wohlers Visionary Award recipients Jerry and Sue Feldman
Jerry and Sue Feldman have dedicated more than 20 years of leadership, support, and generosity to Avenues to Independence. Jerry has served as Governing Board Chair and led transformative initiatives including the Campaign for Independence, which raised more than $5 million to strengthen Avenues’ programs and facilities, as well as major renovations to the Center for Independence. Sue has served on both the Governing and Partnership Boards, championing client-focused events and organizing volunteers to better support Avenues.
Beyond their impressive leadership, Jerry and Sue are well known among our community for their deep personal relationships with the people of Avenues and their ability to inspire others to get involved. Through their positivity and unwavering commitment, they have helped elevate Avenues to new levels of impact and community support.

Linda Buggy
2025 award recipient Linda Buggy’s passion and commitment have made a profound impact on the individuals we serve, helping them live in the community with dignity and independence. Linda has been with Avenues for 20+ years, serving on the Development, Golf, and Love Affair Committees and as Board Chair from 2023 to 2024. She guided Avenues through many challenges, always prioritizing the well-being of clients and staff. Her leadership has helped strengthen Avenues, positioning the organization for growth in residential programs, work opportunities, and community support.

Jim & Anita Hornbrook
2024 recipients Jim and Anita Hornbrook were first introduced to Avenues by friends in 2005. After seeing the impact of the organization’s work, they quickly became deeply involved. Jim joined the Suburban Partnership Network and served on the Programs Committee, while Anita volunteered for many years at the Thrift Shoppe. Together, they attended countless Avenues events and ultimately joined the Sasser Society, reflecting their commitment to Avenues through planned giving. In 2022, Avenues launched the Hornbrook Adventure Program in recognition of their generosity and love of travel, creating new opportunities for clients to experience meaningful adventures.
