William & Jean Knaack Spirit of Avenues Award
Paving the way for possibilities
The Spirit of Avenues Award is named in honor of the organization’s founders, William and Jean Knaack, who paved the way for individuals with disabilities to become fully integrated into the community. This award is presented at our Annual Dinner to individuals who embody the values of Avenues by challenging ideas of what is possible and making a significant impact in the lives of the program participants of Avenues.
2025
Holly Santelli
Holly Santelli is the owner of Ash & Willow Eco Salon and Beauty Apothecary in Park Ridge and Barrington. Holly and her team have provided free haircuts, styling and more to Avenues clients for the past 15 years. She and her team even installed a barber chair in one of Avenues’ residential homes, making it easier for clients to access routine hair care and feel their best.
“Sharing our talents with the Avenues community, and getting to know so many clients personally, has brought me and the team so much joy,” said Holly. “We are so appreciative of this special award and look forward to providing hair services for Avenues for years to come.”
2024
Josephine DeBartolo
Josephine DeBartolo is the mother of Anthony Randazzo, a beloved Avenues participant who sadly passed away in early 2024. Anthony was a longtime Avenues program participant who cherished his time at the Center for Independence (CFI). After Anthony’s passing in early 2024, Josephine chose to honor his memory by donating funds he had set aside, ensuring others could continue to experience the same joy and support he did. Her gift will benefit the Okazaki Residential Fund, supporting the maintenance and renovation of Avenues’ homes. Josephine’s compassion and commitment have left an enduring mark on Avenues, making her a truly deserving recipient.
2023
Matt Coyne and Ed Coyne
Brothers Matt and Ed Coyne are an integral part of the Park Ridge community and have supported the clients of Avenues in ways big and small. Their insurance agency, EJ Coyne & Company, has employed Avenues participants for more than a decade. Additionally, Matt and Ed often serve as ambassadors for Avenues, speaking with other businesses about the benefits of employing Avenues clients. In 1993, Matt joined the Board and quickly became involved with fundraising, finances and program activities; he also served as the Board President from 1997-2000. Ed was one of the original Suburban Partnership Board members, which was created in 2000. He also volunteered to organize game nights and dinners with Avenues residents. Both Ed and Matt often include Avenues program participants in social events with their families and friends.
