The AT&T Pioneers, long-time Avenues to Independence volunteers, were recently awarded the Project Excellence Award by the AT&T National Pioneers Organization. The AT&T Pioneers group, a volunteer group consisting of more than a dozen of AT&T retirees and employees, have been volunteering with Avenues to Independence for over 30 years.

Their association with Avenues began in 1986 when the Des Plaines River overflowed and flooded the Avenues warehouse.  The Pioneers stepped up and donated much needed office supplies so that Avenues could continue to support our program participants.  Since then the group meets to work on projects at the Work Center every Thursday.  They have done projects including collecting Recycling Avenue donation bins, making specialty work tables for program participants and constructing the computer lab.  Because of their generous contributions they were awarded the Spirit of Avenues Award at the Annual Dinner in 2016.  They have continued to show ongoing support and dedication and we thank them for their 30 years of service.
